VALLEY
COLLEGE
Lancaster, CA — A Complete Campus Fitness Center with Full Strength & Cardio Program for Student Athletes and the General Student Body
01 — The Project
A Complete Campus
Fitness Program
Antelope Valley College serves a diverse student population in the high desert of Southern California — from student athletes training for intercollegiate competition to general students seeking fitness for the first time. The college needed a fitness facility that could serve both populations with equal confidence: serious enough for athletic development, approachable enough for beginners, and durable enough for high-volume campus use.
Opti-Fit delivered a complete strength and cardio program spanning selectorized machines, free weights, and commercial-grade cardiovascular equipment. The strength zone provides guided resistance for beginners alongside plate-loaded and free weight options for experienced lifters and student athletes. The cardio floor — treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and rowers — was configured to handle peak-hour student volume between classes.
The facility layout was designed with open sight lines and intuitive navigation so students can train confidently regardless of their fitness background. Every equipment decision was made with the campus context in mind: durable commercial-grade construction for multi-user daily use, intuitive interfaces that require no training to operate, and a layout that keeps traffic moving smoothly during peak hours between classes.

Treadmill & Elliptical Fleet
A full row of commercial treadmills and elliptical cross-trainers forms the primary cardio zone, providing the two most-used modalities in any campus fitness center. The commercial-grade specification ensures these machines sustain daily multi-user operation across a full academic calendar without performance degradation or maintenance issues that would interrupt student access.
Upright Bikes & Rowers
Upright bikes and rowing machines round out the cardio floor with low-impact and full-body conditioning options. The upright bike selection gives students a seated alternative to running and elliptical work, while rowing machines deliver the highest cardiovascular output-per-minute of any tool on the floor — a valuable addition for student athletes seeking efficient conditioning.
Peak-Hour Layout Design
The cardio floor layout was designed specifically for the campus peak-hour pattern — the rush between morning classes, the midday lunch break, and the afternoon-to-evening window when most students train. Equipment spacing, aisle width, and entry/exit flow were all planned to prevent bottlenecks and keep the floor functional at maximum occupancy.
03 — Strength Zone
Selectorized, Plate-Loaded
& Free Weight Training
A comprehensive strength zone covering every training modality from guided selectorized machines for beginners to plate-loaded and free weight options for experienced lifters and student athletes.

Selectorized Zone — Guided resistance machines for beginners and general student population

Strength Floor — Bench press stations and resistance machines for full-body training

Strength Zone Overview — Complete selectorized and plate-loaded program across the campus weight floor
Selectorized Machine Circuit
A full selectorized machine circuit provides guided resistance training for students who are new to strength training, recovering from injury, or prefer the safety and predictability of machine-based movement. The pin-select weight stack system allows quick resistance changes between sets, making the circuit ideal for both solo training and introductory fitness classes.
Plate-Loaded Equipment
Plate-loaded machines bridge the gap between selectorized guidance and free weight independence — giving student athletes and experienced lifters the ability to load their own weight plates and train at higher intensities with the stability and biomechanical support of a machine frame. The plate-loaded line is positioned adjacent to the free weight zone for seamless transitions between training modalities.
Bench Press & Rack Stations
Multiple bench press stations and rack systems anchor the heavy strength training zone, providing the fundamental barbell movements that every athletic development program requires. The station spacing and flooring were specified to NCAA clearance standards, ensuring that multiple student athletes can train simultaneously during team strength and conditioning sessions without safety concerns.
04 — Free Weights
Dumbbell Program
& Functional Training
A complete commercial dumbbell program paired with adjustable benches and functional training accessories gives Antelope Valley College students the full free weight training vocabulary for athletic development and general fitness.

Free Weight Zone — Complete dumbbell program with adjustable benches and functional training tools
Complete Dumbbell
Range
A full commercial dumbbell set — spanning the complete weight range on a multi-tier rack system — provides the fundamental free weight tools for pressing, rowing, curling, and lunging movements. The dumbbell zone is positioned with adjustable benches and mirror walls, giving students the setup they need for proper form and progressive training. The rubber hex dumbbell construction keeps the floor protected and the noise level controlled during high-volume campus use.
Functional Training
Accessories
The free weight zone is complemented by a functional training accessory program — medicine balls, kettlebells, and resistance bands — that expands the training vocabulary beyond traditional dumbbell and barbell work. These tools are ideal for sport-specific conditioning, mobility work, and group training sessions that the campus fitness staff can run for student athletes and general fitness classes alike.
